What a ride! On July 12, the Channel 3 Kids Camp proudly traveled the scenic roads of Connecticut with event sponsor Trantolo & Trantolo, in the first-ever Kids Camp Benefit Ride. Beautiful weather welcomed well over 950 motorcyclists, all helping to raise money and awareness for the 350 acre camp and Victims of Domestic Abuse.

Starting from TSI Ellington, the escorted ride stretched for miles, hitting a number of towns along the way including Vernon, Coventry, Willington, Tolland and Stafford. Grand Marshal, Kevin Hogan of WFSB Channel 3, led the thirty-seven mile ride ending at Sun Valley Beach Resort. Also joining the 'ride for kids' were the popular Teresa LaBarbera, Heather Hegedus, Hena Daniels and Hallie Jackson of Channel 3.

Riders were greeted by appreciative campers, all holding a large 'thank you' banner made in the arts & crafts program during summer camp. Several hundred more people joined motorcyclists at the benefit ride after party. Supporters were able to relax by the lake while enjoying a delicious barbeque with food donated from Bozzuto's Inc., and live music from Arizona Maid Band, Higher Ground, Quintera and Chillum. Band members generously donated their time and talents along with Joe Pepitone of Archie Comics, who gave one lucky winner the opportunity to be sketched on their bike or classic car. Thanks Joe!

Most people who attended walked away as winners, with the raffle containing over one hundred valuable prizes, a 50/50 drawing, door prizes and pre-registration prize of $500 to TSI Harley - Davidson. Prizes were donated by a number of generous businesses and corporations throughout the region; view event supporters.

Thank you to all of the generous riders and event goers who supported the 1st Annual Channel 3 Kids Camp Benefit Ride! Your overwhelming generosity helped to raise nearly $20,000 for year-round programs and services offered to foster children, families in need, and deserving kids throughout our community. Each year more than 4,000 children from Connecticut and New England attend the Channel 3 Kids Camp. Many come from economically challenged situations and would be unable to afford these positive learning experiences. While at camp children ages 6 - 16 are able to escape the hustle and bustle of the 'real world' with time spent in the country. By participating in the Channel 3 Kids Camp benefit ride, you have helped to ensure those children who are unable to afford camping experiences will be able to take part in one of our many year-round programs.

Save the Date for next year! The 2nd Annual Channel 3 Kids Camp Benefit Ride is scheduled for Sunday, July 11, 2010. The celebratory event will honor our Centennial Anniversary, so be prepared for the ride for your life!
